What if the co-worker isn't testing whether you can solve the mystery, but whether you can recognize your own biases before the truth is revealed? That's what surprised me most about Freedom McFadden's novel, The Co-Worker. On the surface, the co-worker is a fast-paced psychological thriller set in an office where two women couldn't be more different. One is a characteristic and successful. The other is socially awkward, meticulous, and often misunderstood. When one of them disappears, the investigation begins. But so do our assumptions. Without giving anything away, this is one of those books that keeps the pages turning. McBadden has a knack for short chapters, mounting tension and just enough information to make you think you figured it out. What elevates the story for me, though, isn't just a mystery. It's how the novel plays with perception. We naturally trust confidence. We question people who don't fit in. We fill in the blanks with our own experiences, often without realizing it. The coworker quietly uses those instincts against us, encouraging us to make judgments before we've earned them. That's what makes the reading experience so engaging. You're not just following the investigation, you're becoming part of it. You're looking for a psychological thriller that's easy to read, difficult to predict, and leaves you questioning your own impressions. The coworker is well worth picking up. I'm Nikki from the Fractured Lens HQ, where we don't just review stories, we explore the psychology behind them. So let me ask you how much do you trust your first impression of someone?
